As real as it gets - Artist & Designer Harry Allen

Art-Humility-Technology-Restraint-Reality-Inspiration-Longevity-Humor-History-New York... These are the words that describe designer/artist Harry Allen's philosophy.

Harry Allen is an award-winning interior and industrial designer. Born in 1964 in New Jersey, he has always lived in the New York metroplitan area. Currently his studio is located in New York City.

As an interior designer Allen achieved prominence in 1994 for his interior design of Moss, a design gallery in New York. A more recent design for the Japanese clothing retailer, Hushush, has expanded to a chain of more than 100 stores. As a product designer he has worked for a very impressive group of clients including Warner Bros., Umbra, Magis, Aveda, Ikea, and Steuben.

Allen has recieved numerous awards and his work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Denver Museum of Art.

Through his work, Allen tries not to underestimate his audience. His long-standing interest in art, new materials, a systematic design process, and innovation have lead to some of the most intelligent products and interiors in the world today.

Harry Allen loves trucks. His immaculately restored 1964 Willys Jeep was recently featured in the New York Times, but it was his fond memories of playing in the dirt that lead him to the idea of "Pickup". The beauty of any pickup truck is its utilitarian aesthetic - four strong wheels and the capacity to haul cargo. Harry had function on his mind as he cast a toy truck and turned it into a catch-all bowl. As with all REALITY products, it is the material transformation that completes the idea. Currently offered in stark white and bright chrome, "Pickup" is functional art for the home.
